HVDC protection lead engineer

Scibreak develops fast DC switchgear based on our proprietary technology with leading performance in terms of speed, losses, volume and cost. We are expanding our team to provide full protection solutions for multi-terminal HVDC grids. Recently the plans for multi-terminal HVDC grids have quickly progressed from being on the horizon to something urgently needed to avoid the energy crisis in Europe and to provide a path to a carbon-neutral society.

We recently became part of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, which greatly enhances our abilities to develop and market our technology. Our work environment combines the flexibility of the small company with the resources and global reach of a large corporation.

You will be leading the development of protection strategies for multi-terminal HVDC grids at Scibreak. This means defining overall protection philosophy as well as switching station design requirements considering fault detection and fault clearing. This also involves leading protection strategy group within Scibreak and helping to expand it. Naturally, a key role will also be interacting and working together with external contacts to reach agreement on the large-scale multi-terminal grids. This includes direct contacts with TSOs, and participation in EU-projects, such as InterOPERA. Preferably, it can also include dissemination activities, such as scientific publications, to promote the use and understanding the function of DCCBs in future HVDC grids. Working tightly together with the development teams on the HVDC protection relay and its related equipment; primarily in providing requirements and specifications, but also with implementation of new protection functions in the relay.

The participation in EU-projects will require regular travelling to meetings, primarily in Europe. The tight collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric in Japan will require travelling to Japan possibly once or twice a year.

Your background

You have an MSc or PhD in electrical engineering or similar and at least five years of experience in the field of HVDC system work and/or power system protection. In addition, experience of working with EMT simulations in PSCAD or similar, as well as real-time simulations is highly valued.

What we offer

You will receive a competitive salary and great possibilities to grow your career in the HVDC field together with us. The main working location will be at our office in Stockholm, Sweden.
